Happy Birthday Mr. Steve. 

My southern roots want me to say Mr. Elrod but somewhere along the way (maybe circa 2001) that just became too formal for someone so special.  

Happy Birthday!  I hope that your day is filled with joy, happiness, and laughter.  All things that you most certainly deserve.  I hope that you celebrate with some tasty vegetarian meal and dessert that make your tummy full. 

As with most sincere notes, its often hard to figure out where to start.  I want to start with......Thank You!  Thank you for being the college friend dad that welcomed everyone with a smile, a hug, and a genuine conversation.  Thank you for being the college friend dad that opened your home to those deserving and questionably undeserving (like myself).  Thank you to the college friend dad that was always apt to share a laugh and a hearty meal.  Thank you to the college friend dad who opened doors in GA, NC and most likely any state necessary for all to feel welcome. Most importantly, thank you for being the college friend dad, who raised the college friend, who does the exact same.  Thank you for being a dad who embodies the dad role with such respect and dignity that all can only hope to achieve the same, either as dads or in respective marriages.  Thank you for being a ray of light to so many elementary age children in the southern United States.  Thank you for being a devoted and loving spouse to an amazing wife.  Thank you for being such a phenomenal granddad that even little ones in Florida know who shakes out as the "best granddad in the world". Thank you for demonstrating strength in times that require it and thank you for demonstrating strength when your health is begging your to defer.  You are a phenomenal example to all of us and we are blessed beyond measure to know you.  Thank you for being you! 

We love you and we shall find a piece of cake to celebrate you today.
