One of my fondest memories as a kid at Shoal Creek Elementary was of Principal Elrod joining in and celebrating milestones with the students. Whether the child read the most books over the summer or won first place in the Shark Run (1 mile race) he always found a way to reward the individual and make them feel special. I remember being awarded by principal Elrod with an ice cream social and a bike ride in the parking lot on a two-seated bike that was captained by Principal Elrod. I had never seen such a thing and thought I was the luckiest kid on earth when selected to join him.

I always appreciated his ability to motivate the students and reward while also being clear on his expectations for rules. I feared for any child that might have needed to be paddled!

I want to wish him the happiest of birthdays this year and simply say thank you for helping to make my childhood so fond to look back on.
